Who runs this

Trademark Search is built and run by Prometheus Labs, a small software company in Kitchener, Ontario. We build focused tools that do one job well; this one answers a single question: does a name you want to use already appear on the U.S. or Canadian federal trademark registers?

Where the data comes from

The corpus holds live and pending federal filings from the USPTO (United States) and CIPO (Canada), plus records that recently became inactive: millions of records in total. An automated ingest refreshes it weekly from the official government feeds, and every results page shows matches from the records current at the time the search runs.

What it does not include: U.S. state registrations, common-law (unregistered) marks, other countries' registers, and logo or design elements. Government feeds can lag or contain errors, so a search here is a starting point, never the final word.

How matching works

Searches compare your name against the registers by exact text, sound-alike (phonetic) similarity, and common spelling variants. The free search shows the strongest matches; the $39 clearance report covers the complete registers across every goods-and-services class; Watch re-checks every new filing against your name each week. All three return factual matches from the public records. None of them is legal advice, and no result determines whether a name is available to use or register: for that, talk to a trademark lawyer or agent.

Corrections

If a record looks wrong, out of date, or is missing, email hello@prometheuslabs.ca with the name you searched and what you expected. A person reads every message; genuine data problems get investigated against the source feeds and fixed in the next ingest.
